In putting this site together I wanted to use it for a number of purposes:

I wanted to build my own photo resource site, aimed mainly at people who are interested in photography and have moved or are about to move to digital photography but who are not IT gurus'. Unfortunately you cannot escape from the need to know a little about the IT side to get the best out of todays digital cameras. For simple picture taking the big manufacturers such as Kodak, Epson etc. are taking vast strides to take the mystery out of producing simple prints.

These days, despite some valiant attempts by Epson, Kodak and companies such as Jessops, Boots etc. most people just want to be able to hand their film (memory stick) into the local chemist and be given some prints a short while later. Many people want to do this themselves but to do this they need to understand a little about the technology, hence my attempt to explain some of its aspects. But even this is changing with the widespread introduction of self printing booths in many shops and stores. But again this has changed. With broadband its easy to upload quite large files and many companies do on-line printing services: Jessops, Aldi, Snapfish, Flickr, Tesco and many, many more. You upload you photos with simple web based browser tools - to crop etc, select size, gloss or silk etc and enter your credit card details. A couple of days later you get your prints. Some companies will even print you a photo book on-line, My Publisher, Aldi and CEWE to name but a few.

Despite these options as well as printing your own, many just display their photos on their PC, TV or smartphone and they are never see on paper.

The articles in this site are an attempt to demystify aspects of photography. What are pixels, archiving your images, protecting your computer and so on?
